Codecember

Terms of service

Last updated October 20, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Resonance Research LLC, a Delaware limited liability company ("we", "us"), which runs Codecember. By signing in you agree to them, to the Content policy and to how we handle your data as described in the Privacy policy.

What Codecember does

Codecember is a December event to write code every day. You sign in with GitHub, GitLab or Codeberg. We use read-only access to your account to read commit metadata (counts, lines changed, languages and commit hashes, never the code itself) and show your progress. You can add a note and an image to each day and create share links that show a day to anyone who has the link. Share links can be made until 30 days after an event ends. We never change your repositories.

Who can use it

You must be at least 13 years old to use Codecember. If you are under the age of digital consent where you live (up to 16 in some EU countries), you need permission from a parent or guardian, who agrees to these terms for you.

Your account

Your Codecember account is created when you first sign in with GitHub, GitLab or Codeberg, and you can connect more than one of them. Keep those accounts secure: anything done while signed in to your Codecember account is your responsibility. You must follow the rules of the provider you sign in with.

Your content

Your notes and images stay yours. To run Codecember you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, process (for example resize or re-encode images) and display them inside Codecember: to you, and to anyone who opens a share link you created. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, or when its hosting period ends, except for copies in backups, which are removed as the backups expire.

  • We don't feature your work in our own posts, recaps or promotion unless we ask you first and you say yes.
  • We never sell your content, never license it to anyone else and never use it to train AI.

You are responsible for what you post and must have the right to post it. Shared notes and screenshots can expose secrets such as tokens, keys, passwords or private data, so check them before you share a day. Anyone with a share link can see that day until you stop sharing it. Notes and images are hosted until 2 years after their event ends, then deleted. After that a share link shows only the day's stats, until you stop sharing it, which still deletes it.

What you can't post

Content and behaviour that breaks the Content policy is not allowed. You must not misuse the service: no attempts to break or overload it, get at other people's data, or get around a suspension or ban.

Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time from Settings. This deletes your data as described in the Privacy policy.

We can remove content, suspend accounts or end accounts that break these terms or the Content policy, or where the law requires it. Where the law requires it, we tell you what we did and why, and how to object.

Disclaimer and liability

Codecember is free and provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. It may change, have downtime or lose data, so keep your own copies of anything important.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, and disputes go to the state or federal courts in Delaware. Resonance Research LLC is a Delaware limited liability company.

If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and you can bring a claim in the courts of that country.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We announce material changes on the site before they apply, and the date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. If you keep using Codecember after a change applies, the new terms apply to you; if you don't agree, you can delete your account.
